Celebrating Faith, Excellence, and Service in Our Youth

As part of our ongoing commitment to nurture and support the next generation, St. Mark Greek Orthodox Church is proud to offer three awards to recognize the outstanding contributions of youth and parish members. These awards will be presented during our Annual Fundraising Event in February 2026.
We encourage all eligible students to apply and share their stories of learning, growth, and service inspired by their Orthodox faith and values.

Scholarship #1: The Father Nikodimos Award for Academic Achievement
Amount: $400
Deadline: January 22, 2026
Purpose: To honour academic excellence and dedication to learning.
About the Scholarship
The Father Nikodimos Scholarship was established to honour the dedication of Father Nikodimos, whose faith, wisdom, and devotion to learning inspire our parish. This scholarship recognizes students who have demonstrated exceptional academic achievement and a genuine commitment to learning and leadership.
Through their hard work and dedication, recipients embody the belief that education is both a gift and a calling, an opportunity to use one’s talents for the glory of God and the good of others.

Eligibility
Applicants must:

Be 15 years of age or older.
-
Be currently enrolled in high school, CEGEP, or university.
-
Be a member of or have a connection to the St. Mark Greek Orthodox Church community.
Application Requirements

Completed application form (available at the following link or the church office).

Most recent report card or transcript.

Personal statement (max 500 words) describing:
-
Your educational goals and achievements.
-
How your Orthodox faith and values influence your approach to learning, perseverance, and service.
-

One reference letter from a teacher, mentor, or community leader who can speak to your character, academic commitment, and involvement.
Selection Criteria
Applications will be reviewed by a selection committee and evaluated on the following:
-
Academic Excellence (30%) – strength of academic record and commitment to learning.

School Involvement (25%) – participation in extracurriculars, leadership roles, or contributions to school life.
-
Personal Statement (25%) – clarity, reflection, and alignment with the values of faith and service.
-
Reference Letter (10%) – insight into applicant’s character and potential.

Connection to Church (10%) – demonstration of involvement or commitment to parish life.

Scholarship #2: St. Markos “Ὁ Πλησίον / Thy Neighbour” Award for Community Involvement
Amount: $400
Deadline: January 22, 2026
Purpose: To honour students who demonstrate compassion, service, and leadership in their communities.
About the Scholarship
The St. Mark Church “Ὁ Πλησίον / Thy Neighbour” Scholarship for Community Involvement celebrates students who demonstrate outstanding community engagement, volunteerism, and service, those who reflect Christ’s love through their actions and uplift those around them. The award recognizes that true greatness lies not only in achievement, but in kindness, empathy, and dedication to others.

Be a member of or have a connection to the St. Mark Greek Orthodox Church community.

How your Orthodox faith inspires your desire to serve and support others.

One reference letter from a community leader, volunteer coordinator, or mentor who can attest to your service and impact.

(Optional) Supporting materials, such as photos, letters, or short descriptions of volunteer projects.
Selection Criteria
Applications will be reviewed by a selection committee and evaluated on:

Volunteerism & Impact (30%) – quality and scope of community service.

Leadership & Initiative (25%) – how the applicant takes responsibility and inspires others.

Personal Statement (25%) – authenticity, reflection, and alignment with Orthodox values.

Reference Letter (10%) – insight into commitment and contribution.

Connection to Church (10%) – participation in parish life or service consistent with Christian faith.

Award #3: The Efthymia Oikonomou Church Involvement Award
Amount: $400
Deadline: January 22, 2026
Purpose: To recognize exceptional dedication to parish life for members of all ages.
About the Scholarship
The Efthymia Oikonomou Church Involvement Award is dedicated to honouring the generous spirit of Mrs Efthymia Oikonomou, a beloved member of our community known for her compassion, humility, and unwavering commitment to the Church and its members.
Eligibility:

All parish members actively involved in church ministries, events, or programs
Nomination Process:

By nomination only from church clergy or executive committee members
-
Nominations should describe how the individual contributes to parish life and demonstrates leadership, service, and faith
Evaluation Criteria:

Commitment to Church – 40%
-
Leadership & Example – 30%
-
Spirit of Service – 30%
